A Message from Attorney Zambrana: Beware of "Immigration Consultants"!
Dear Visitors:
Thousands of immigrants across the United States pay a visit to "Immigration Consultants", better known as the "Notarios", who offer the promise of immigration benefits at a reduced price. Most of these people, however, are scam artists, who have no knowledge of our intricate immigration laws, whose work leaves immigrants uncertain of their status, exposed to deportation proceedings, and financially drained.
Do not fall into this scam! Our immigration laws are intricate and all related transactions go beyond filling forms and filing them, where most of the time legal advice as to the benefits a person may qualify for is in place. Immigration laws and federal regulations clearly state that only those persons duly admitted to the legal practice in the United States may give legal advice aliens or immigrants in requesting immigration benefits.
Any other person that offers these services is practicing law without authorization. This is a felony, punishable by a prison sentence. Make sure that you seek advice from an attorney authorized to practice law.
If you suspect that the person that assisted you is not a licensed attorney, contact the Puerto Rico Bar Association, or the Bar Association of your region, your local district attorney's office, or an attorney you trust.
About Puerto Rico
Located at the heart of the Caribbean, Puerto Rico has been, historically, a cultural, political and economic link between North America and Latin America.
Better known as the Island of Enchantment, Puerto Rico is currently part of the territorial extension of the United States of America. Due to its cultural affinity with the rest of Latin America, Puerto Rico is favored as a destination for Spanish speakers that wish to emigrate to the United States.
